The standout feature of the EDGE 1050 is the improved GroupRide, allowing cyclists to communicate through In-Ride Message, sharing their location, providing information, and guiding other cyclists to help those in need in unexpected situations. In GroupRide, users can also compete against each other with rankings such as the leaderboard, including rankings based on climbing data, and post-ride achievements like Speed Rider (the highest scorer), Chatterbox (the most frequent user of the GroupRide messaging feature), and Worker Bee (the rider who accumulates the most time on the bike).

The EDGE 1050 also comes with LiveTrack for safety features and Incident Detection, which alerts others about hazards like potholes or fallen trees. This feature will soon be available for the EDGE 540, EDGE 840, and EDGE 1040 as well.
